Whitney & Brit’s Same-Sex Elopement in New Orleans: Rain, Romance, and the Grand Victorian

I was honored to photograph Whitney & Brit’s same-sex elopement at the Grand Victorian in New Orleans. Their day was so small and intimate that I got to be one of the witnesses on the marriage certificate, which still might be one of my favorite moments of this job.

It rained. At first we were all a little disappointed, but honestly, the rain made everything more romantic. The Grand Victorian’s porch gave us shelter and that gorgeous tree-lined backdrop. You could hear the soft rain as they said their vows. I might have teared up a little myself.

What I loved most is that these two refused to compromise on what mattered to them. They kept their original anniversary date and ran away to get married even though it landed on a Monday. That’s exactly the kind of decision I’m always telling couples to make: your traditions, your timeline, your way.
