Grace & Julien’s Louisiana Tented Wedding | Lake Martin Garden Party
Why Louisiana Tented Weddings Are Perfect for Garden Parties
This Louisiana tented wedding at Lake Martin at Julien’s family home was one for the books! Working alongside my good friend Kerri from Threaux Events, I loved the beautiful tented celebration she created. Grace and Julien’s vision? A cool, modern take on a garden party with pinks paired with olive green – and under that gorgeous white tent, it was absolutely stunning.
Here’s what Kerri had to say about it…
Grace and Julian chose their family’s Louisiana lake front property due to it’s beauty and sentiment. Being that the space was surrounded by oak trees dripping in Spanish moss we didn’t need a lot, just a few touches to add to it’s beauty. Grace wanted a lot of color, but simple florals and decor. We chose a collection of vibrant spring florals that we could repurpose from ceremony to reception. The tables were draped with a mix of soft pink solid linens and pink seersucker linens to add to the charm of the deep south setting. To finish off the centerpieces we used a blend of charming natural wood candlesticks and soft romantic glass hurricanes and votives.
The ceremony took place out in the yard with Spanish moss draping from the trees, creating a natural frame to their backdrop. A family friend officiated their vows and then – wait for it – played the bagpipes himself while walking back down the aisle!
Now, we need to talk about the weather drama. We spent the entire week praying the rain would stay away, and at my suggestion, Grace and Julien tried that old Southern tradition of burying a bottle of bourbon upside down at the ceremony site. It worked! No rain – but Mother Nature threw us a curveball with some serious wind instead. One of my favorite film shots from this Louisiana tented wedding shows the wind whipping the tablecloths at the cake table – it might be one of the most epic images I’ve ever captured. That wind added such movement and life to everything, so it all worked out, even if we needed 6 weights and 2 people holding up the Goldy Way backdrop.
The party was incredible. Grace is a major Swiftie, so there were plenty of singalongs with her bridesmaids (and yes, they even got Kerri to join in!). When they dug up that bourbon bottle, everyone took a celebratory shot – such a fun moment! And the dancing? The entire family joined in for a traditional dabke dance that had everyone on their feet.
Despite the wind and humidity, this tented reception in Lake Martin, Louisiana wedding was absolutely unforgettable. The combination of family property charm, thoughtful design details, and genuine celebration made it such a special day. From the moss-draped ceremony to the perfectly styled tented reception filled with laughter and dancing, Grace and Julien’s day was everything a backyard wedding should be – personal, beautiful, and so much fun.
Huge shoutout to this amazing vendor team who made it all happen: Threaux Events for planning, Root Floral for those stunning floral arrangements, Seth Fangue keeping the dance floor packed, Wildflower Hair & Makeup making everyone gorgeous, Bon Temps Grill serving up delicious food, Town & Country Bridal for Grace’s gown, Ken & Dana Design for that sparkler of an engagement ring, Texture Rental Collection for the perfect details, and Sweet Magnolia for the ambiance-setting candles.
Here’s some super sweet words from Grace herself…
Hannah is an amazing photographer. From day one she was communicative and encouraging. As someone who was very unfamiliar with the wedding planning process, Hannah was willing and able to hold my hand throughout the months leading up. The day of the wedding, she showed up fully prepared and on time and immediately got to work. I was very impressed with her professional manner and her ability to guide people in their state of excitement/confusion/busyness/chaos the day of the wedding! She got wonderful portraits of my husband and I and was more than happy to get portraits of my family members. Her candids truly captured the essence of the night, and I am more than pleased with all of the photos!
